At the Y, we focus on nurturing the potential of every person from babies to seniors, improving our community’s health and well-being, and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors. While providing programming that strengthens mind, body and spirit, the Y enables youth, adults, families and communities to be more healthy, confident, connected and secure. Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a teen, and when a community comes together for the common good.
People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. People are not connected to their neighbors and face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.
After 100 years of serving Knox County, the Y understands what our community needs to be its best. Together with our generous donors, the Y provides everyone the opportunity to be healthy and thrive, to connect with others, and contribute to a better community.
We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Whether due to unemployment, poor health, financial hardship, or special circumstances, people are struggling to provide for their families. Through financial assistance, the Y gives away over $220,000 to people in our community who do not have the resources to pay for programming and membership fees.
For those on active military duty we provide free membership and also provide three-month subsidy memberships for unemployed. Other free and subsidized programs include Learn to Swim, LIVESTRONG adult cancer survivors, Healthy Seniors, Youth Basketball, Teen Center after school programs, and early learning program in Knox County. We open our doors to everyone regardless of their ability to pay.
Strengthening community is our cause. We are committed to taking on many of the greatest challenges facing our youth, our health and our community. Contributions help address many social issues that affect us all, including affordable childcare for working parents, membership for those seeking better health and programs for under-served youth. We count on the generosity of the community to meet our mission.
