Our team is a year-round competitive swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at their individual level of ability, from novice to international competitor. All swimmers are welcome and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraisers.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE 2025 -2026 SEASON

SAILFISH "TRY THE TEAM" WEEK: Monday - Wednesday, September 22 - 24
Monday - Wednesday, 4:00 - 5:00 PM
“Try the Team” is a free, three-day session for swimmers curious about joining the Sailfish Swim Team. It’s a chance to jump in, meet the coaches, and experience the fun and challenge of swim team practice before the regular season begins. Parents/guardians are welcome to walk their swimmers to the pool and watch the action from the observation deck.
Cost: FREE

OPEN HOUSE: Wednesday, September 24
5:30 - 6:30 PM
This meeting is for families who are new to the Sailfish Swim Team or to competitive swimming, as well as returning families who’d like a refresher or additional information. New swimmers will head to the pool for an assessment to determine their training group, so they should arrive ready with a swimsuit, towel, and goggles. Parents and guardians may escort their swimmers to the pool deck, then join Coach Hodding Carter, for an introduction to the Y and USA Swimming. During this session, families will receive the team handbook, as well as swim meet and practice schedules.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING: Monday, September 8 - Thursday, October 3
Monday - Thursday, 5:00 - 6:00 PM
Pre-season is designed for Silver and Gold swimmers only to get a jump on the coming Fall/Winter competitive season and improve technique. Also, if a swimmer is doing a fall sport but wants to start getting back in shape, the pre-season program is designed for them. Please contact Coach Hodding to verify which Training Group your swimmer will be assigned to this season.

SAILFISH SWIM TEAM SEASON: Monday, October 6 - March 2026
When you join the Sailfish Swim Team you will be joining a legacy of some of the top competitors in the State of Maine. We will be constantly evaluating the swimmers to see if they are in the right group. Swimmers may be moved up or down throughout the season depending on how they are practicing compared to the rest of their practice group. All group placements or group moves are the sole decision/responsibility of the Sailfish Coaching Staff. Prerequisite: Swimmers must be a Y member in good standing and be willing to participate in fundraising events.
