Adventure Camp Director - Rockport

Adventure Summer Camp Director 

Come Lead Adventure Camp for the summer of 2017!    

The Adventure Camp Director provides a fun and positive environment for children ages 11-13 with a focus on the YMCA's core values of: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Adventure Camp is a camp geared for teens and pre-teens who are looking for fun outdoor adventures. Every day, our campers will be transported in the Y van to a different location.  The Camp Director will lead various expeditions to include: hiking, boating, swimming, climbing and group challenges. 

  • Directs and supervises the Adventure Camp program activities and staff to meet YMCA objectives.
  • Exemplify the YMCA philosophy in teaching to reflect a positive image, promoting the healthy growth and development of youth.
  • Establish and maintain a clear line of communication with parents, campers, and other camp staff.
  • Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for campers.
  • Write weekly newsletters.
  • Facilitate weekly staff meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records (busing lists, accident & incident reports, field trip permission slips, group lists, camp schedules).
  • Drive the YMCA mini-bus

Aquatics Coordinator (Full-time)

Job Type: Full Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

Position Summary:

With guidance from the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator helps to develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with the management of department activity to meet YMCA objectives.
  2. Train, schedule, and direct staff and volunteers as needed.
  3. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all State, Local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  4. Monitor and keep accurate records of all programs using the Aquatics department; reach out to local programs to develop and maintain a healthy working relationship with the community.
  5. Manage swim lessons and water fitness classes and keep accurate documentation of participation. Assist in the professional development of swim instructors and water fitness instructors.
  6. Assist with proper maintenance of pools. Secure and schedule pool facilities. Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  7. Participate in the planning of the annual budget. Manage and implement the approved budget for Aquatics and take appropriate action to correct variances.
  8. Respond to all member and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  9. Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  10. Must be flexible in schedule: willingness and availability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  11. Lifeguards, teaches swimming lessons and water fitness classes.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Order supplies for the Aquatic Department.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Participate in YMCA special events
  • Teach Lifeguarding and CPR courses, once certified.
  • Perform all other duties necessary for the good of the organization.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
  3. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  5. Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  6. Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
  7. Keeps accurate class attendance records.

  • Conducts fitness orientations and observes and discusses individual progress with participants.
  • Conducts fitness evaluations with proper training.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Monitors the fitness floor to ensure safety of members.
  • Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
  • Consistently takes class attendance utilizing Daxko class rosters.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Helps maintain fitness equipment and facilities. Reports equipment problems.
  • Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  • Performs all other duties necessary for the good of the organization

Rockland Afterschool Activities & Sports Coordinator

Immediate Opening for Sports & Activities Coordinator Part-Time at the Rockland Community Center 

61 Limerock St. Rockland, Maine

Part-time position 19-25 hours per week
