Activities & Sports Coordinator

Immediate Opening for Sports & Activities Coordinator - Rockland Community Center 

61 Limerock St. Rockland, Maine

Part-time position 19-25 hours per week

Weekday Shift: Monday through Friday 3pm -6pm supervising open gym time and activities in the game area. 

  1. Helps referee basketball games for K-6th grade
  2. Provides building supervision to create safe environment for kids using the Flanagan Center
  3. Works with volunteers as needed to run sports programs.
  4. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. 
  5. Helps maintain gymnasium equipment and facilities including cleaning. Reports equipment problems.

Saturday Shift: 10am -6pm - Staffing front desk, referee basketball games. Overseeing building activities.

Custodian (Part-time Evenings- Weekdays)

Job Type: Part Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

  • Custodial Position -   (Evening Position Part-time)- Rockport
 

We are looking for self-motivated and dependable person who has a demonstrated ability to work independently to join our facilities team at the Penobscot Bay Y. Make a difference by working for a non-profit in your community by helping us to provide a clean facility for our community to enjoy.

Schedule: Mondays and Fridays 6:30pm - 10:30pm. Flexiblity on days of the week if needed and flexible on start and end times within an hour.

 

 Primary Duties:

  • Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment at the Penobscot Bay YMCA and the Teen Center.  Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning locker rooms/bathrooms, cleaning childcare center, wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.

  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.

  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

  • Replaces soap, paper towels, sanitizer, and other supplies.

  • May set up furniture for events.

  • In the winter, will shovel snow on walkways or utilize snowblower. During spring through fall may perform outside maintenance such as lawn mowing, mulching, trimming, weeding, etc.

Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license. 

 
Free adult membership to the Y in both Rockland and Rockport with part-time employment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  4. Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  5. Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
  6. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

Job Description:

  • Plan and facilitate age appropriate, educational lessons on a daily basis, create and maintain individual portfolios for each child.

  • Develop and maintain a healthy relationship with parents and children.
  • Lead the ongoing evaluation process needed to assess the developmental levels of children.
  • Provide appropriate guidance to children in need of redirection and relate well to children of all abilities.
  • Perform necessary duties to ensure children’s comfort and well being to include diaper changing and feeding.
