Assistant Facilities Director - New!

Job Type: Full Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

Assists Facilities Director with the maintenance and improvement operations of YMCA facilities and vehicles, including preventative maintenance and building controls operation. Responsibilities include painting, carpentry work, floor maintenance, small engine repair and mechanical system maintenance and emergency repairs. May also complete custodial duties and other items to support the various functions of the association.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists with overall coordination of facility maintenance and responsibility for building controls.
  2. Assists with supervision of custodial staff including weekends and evenings. Oversees and ensures Y is attractive and clean. Ensures completion of daily scheduled duties and maintenance of assigned areas and equipment.
  3. Completes repair work and projects in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
  4. Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
  5. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment. (Auto scrubber, snow blower, lawn mower, etc.)
  6. Visits Rockland Harbor YMCA twice a month to perform needed maintenance from changing out light bulbs to light carpentry and painting. Must work at night after facility is closed.
  7. Assists with annual shutdown projects in each department including Rockland Harbor YMCA, Flanagan Community Center, Lily Pond and the Teen Center.
  8. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  9. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  10. Performs custodial duties as necessary and may set up furniture for events.

Now Hiring Summer Camp Directors for Summer 2019

Must be able to work Monday through Friday schedule from June 17 through August 23.

Adventure Camp Director - Directing staff and camp activities for middle school aged children. Leading fun outdoor adventures, canoeing, hiking, exploring beaches and parks, and so much more. Work daytime hours, Monday through Friday and make a positive impact with the youth in your community.

Discovery Camp Director - Directing staff and camp activities for children about to enter kindergarten or just finishing kindergarten. Work daytime hours, Monday through Friday and make a positive impact with the youth in your community. 

Camp Directors provide a safe, nurturing and positive environment for children with a focus on the YMCA's core values of: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

  • Directs and supervises camp program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
  • Exemplify the YMCA philosophy in teaching to reflect a positive image, promoting the healthy growth and development of youth.
  • Establish and maintain a clear line of communication with parents, campers, and other camp staff.
  • Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for campers.
  • Incorporate STEM activities for children and opportunities to learn and prepare children for the next school year.
  • Write weekly newsletters.
  • Facilitate weekly staff meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records (busing lists, accident & incident reports, field trip permission slips, group lists, camp schedules).

Child Watch Staff

Job Type: Part Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

 

We are looking for someone to work from 8:30am to 11:30am in Child Watch at the Rockport YMCA Monday through Friday through the month of June.  Child Watch is a free babysitting service for Y members. It allows members to remain on site and attend a class or workout while their children play in the Child Watch classroom.

This is a part-time position, which is eligible for a free YMCA membership for the Rockland and Rockport Y.

Custodian (3:30pm to 11:30pm)

Job Type: Full Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

Custodial Position -   (Evening Position Full-time)- Rockport
 

We are looking for self-motivated and dependable person who has a demonstrated ability to work independently to join our facilities team at the Penobscot Bay Y. Make a difference by working for a non-profit in your community by helping us to provide a clean facility for our community to enjoy.

 Primary Duties:

  • Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment at the Penobscot Bay YMCA and the Teen Center.  Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning locker rooms/bathrooms, cleaning childcare center, wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.

  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.

  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

  • Replaces soap, paper towels, sanitizer, and other supplies.

  • May set up furniture for events.

  • In the winter, will shovel snow on walkways or utilize snowblower. During spring through fall may perform outside maintenance such as lawn mowing, mulching, trimming, weeding, etc.

Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license. Schedule is Monday through Friday 3:30pm to 11:30pm. Rotating weekend duty with position.

Lifeguards

Job Type: Part Time - Location: Penobscot Bay YMCA

Primary Duties: 
Help us create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.  

Lifeguards make so many important things happen at the Y, kids are able to have swim lessons, adults are able to exercise, rehabilitation appointments can occur, in water fitness classes, swim team and so much more. Teen Center Staff

Job Type: Part Time - Location: Teen Center

Job Description: 

Provides a safe and positive environment for youth who attend the Teen Center, primarily children in 5th and 6th grade, through direct supervision, role modeling positive behaviors (mission & values) and maintaining open and direct two-way communication with the Program Coordinator, Norm Parratt. 

Schedule:
Monday through Friday 2:30 - 6:00 PM

The Teen Center is closed when school is not in session. This position will run from now until the end of the school year in June.  Must be at least 18 years of age.
